Our Work
Research and analysis shaping Malaysia’s fiscal policy conversations
Federal Revenue Composition Mapping
We analyzed 15 years of Malaysia’s federal revenue data to map how tax income, non-tax revenues, and petroleum contributions have shifted. Our findings showed petroleum income’s declining share from 28% to 12%, highlighting the urgency of diversification strategies for fiscal sustainability.
Development Expenditure Evaluation
Assessed RM 450 billion in capital expenditure across 8 development corridors over 2020-2023. Identified efficiency gaps and sectoral allocation patterns that informed policy discussions around infrastructure prioritization and regional equity in budget distribution.
Deficit Management Framework Analysis
Developed a 5-year fiscal deficit reduction framework examining spending controls, revenue enhancement, and debt sustainability. Research supported discussions on achieving the 3% deficit target while maintaining development investment commitments.
Petroleum Income Dependency Assessment
Examined Malaysia’s structural reliance on oil and gas revenues across federal and state budgets. Quantified revenue volatility impacts and recommended tax base broadening measures to reduce commodity price exposure in budget planning.
